WR CLOSES FOB AT DADAR STN FOR SAFETY REASONS

MUMBAI: The Western Railway (WR) closed a foot over bridge (FOB) on Saturday at Dadar station between the south-end FOB of Brihanmumb­ai Municipal Corporatio­n (BMC) and middle wide railway FOB. A WR spokespers­on said that Iit-bombay has advised closing the FOB in its safety audit. He added, “Passengers can use the other four FOBS for accessing platforms.”

Man poses as cop, tries to extort diamond trader

MUMBAI: A 56-year-old manager of a pub in Juhu was arrested for allegedly posing as a police officer from the narcotics cell of the Mumbai Police and attempting to extort money from the senior executive of a diamond company in Bandra-kurla Complex (BKC). The accused, Laxmikant Pawar, is a former informer of the narcotics wing of Mumbai police.

Estate agent who was held for raping minor acquitted

MUMBAI: The sessions court on Friday acquitted a 27-year-old estate agent who was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl on the pretext of marrying her in 2016 and cheating her sister of ₹60,000 by promising to get her a college admission. The minor had filed a complaint after learning the man is already married. But the defence argued that the minor had clicked photograph­s with the man’s wife, so there was no question of her being unaware of his marital status.

Woman, 25-year-old son found dead in Virar flat

MUMBAI: The Virar police filed a case of accidental death after a 42-year-old woman and her 25-year-old son were found dead in an apartment in Narangi, Virar (East), on Friday night. Police said Saraswati Chowgule and her son Vinay were dealing with a financial crisis.

Lizard found in meal at tribal hostel in Kalyan

KALYAN: A lizard was found in a meal at a tribal hostel of Murbad taluka, near Kalyan, on Friday night. After the incident came to light, some children were taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution­ary measure. At least 15 children were having dinner when the incident took place. The food sample has been sent for testing.

Man gets 15 years in jail for culpable homicide

THANE : A sessions court sentenced a 28-year-old man to 15 years of rigorous imprisonme­nt for culpable homicide in connection with his wife’s death four years ago. Gulab Deoram Chavan and his wife Anita would have heated arguments. In November 2015, Anita poured kerosene on herself after an argument. In a fit of rage, Chavan threw a burning matchstick at her, due to which she suffered serious burn injuries and died two days later.
