THANE: The Kalyan sessions court on Tuesday sentenced a 40-year-old man to life imprisonme­nt for killing his wife following a minor argument between them. The convict, Nandu Kamdi, a resident of Shirole village in Shahpur, had strangled his wife with a dupatta in 2017. Kamdi used to work as a labourer.

16 years on, man acquitted of molestatio­n charges

MUMBAI: The Kurla metropolit­an court acquitted a 55-year-old man on Thursday of charges related to molesting a mentally-challenged woman in 2003 in Govandi. The metropolit­an court noted that there was no evidence that the man had caused hurt to the woman or molested her.

Bird strike ’17: DGCA probe says Goair pilots at fault

MUMBAI: An investigat­ion into a bird strike incident on Goair (G8 338) Delhi-mumbai flight on June 21, 2017, which led to the flight having to return, has been blamed on the pilots. The DGCA on Monday released a report that said the incident was caused by incorrect identifica­tion of affected engine.

ONGC halts seismic survey after fishermen’s protest

PALGHAR: Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) on Monday suspended an ongoing seismic survey for oil deposits in the Arabian Sea till February 12, after fishermen from Vasai, Palghar, Dahanu, Uttan, Bhayander and other areas protested. The decision to halt the survey was taken at a top-level meeting between ONGC, the fisheries department and members of federal fishermen cooperativ­e societies on Monday.
