5 HELD OVER ‘PLOT’ TO KILL LEADERS OF HINDU OUTFITS

COIMBATORE: Five people were arrested here on Sunday for allegedly conspiring to eliminate a few leaders of Hindu outfits, police said. Acting on a tip off, the Special Investigat­ion Unit (SIU) of the police detained four people who arrived here from Chennai, on Saturday, officials familiar with the matter said. Another person who had come to receive them was also picked up for questionin­g, they said. Police said interrogat­ion revealed that the accused had conspired to kill Arjun Sampath of Hindu Makkal Katchi and Hindu Munnani leader Mookambika­i Mani among others. All the five were booked under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and conspiracy.

Missing Trinamool activist found dead in Bengal pond

KOLKATA : A Trinamool Congress activist was found dead at Bhangar in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on Sunday after being missing since Saturday night, police said. While the relatives of the deceased claimed that he was killed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, police said they have not found any proof of murder. “The body of Shibu Debnath, a Trinamool Congress worker was found in a pond near his house in Bhangar’s Saitgachi on Sunday morning. There are no injury marks on the deceased’s body,” a senior officer from Bhangar police station said.

Five die of asphyxiati­on inside Odisha septic tank

KORAPUT: Five people, including a woman, died of asphyxiati­on and another fell unconsciou­s Sunday after entering an under-constructi­on septic tank at a village in Odisha’s Rayagada district, police officials said. Tragedy struck Durgi village in Rayagada when the woman worker, who had entered the tank, was trapped inside and all five men ventured into it one by one in a vain bid to rescue her, additional superinten­dent of police (ASP) Y Jagannath Rao said.
