MUMBAI:THE civic body has devel oped a litigation management system that will help it track its more than 70,000 pending court cases.

The civic body annually spends Rs65 crore on various cases, of which Rs25 crore is spent on the fees of senior coun sels. These cases are related to various issues such as property tax disputes, encroachments demolition of unauthorized con struction, road expansion and others.

The system will help civic offi cials know which case is pending and instances where there have been a majority of adjournments or delays, said civic officials. The BMC will also make payments through the real-time gross set tlement system of banks, instead of any other method of payment

The system was developed by in-house engineers over a period of three months. The new cases will have to be updated by assist ant law officers. Civic chief Ajoy Mehta said, “After checking the record, we will decide whether there is a need for an appeal.”

The disaster control room has been now moved from a 6,000 sqft plot on the ground floor to an 8,000-sqft room area on the sec ond floor of headquarters. The civic body spent Rs3.6 crore on the renovation.

Civic chief Ajoy Mehta gave details about the new video wal installed in the disaster manage ment unit, as reported by HT, on Monday. The 6-m long and 1.5-m wide wide video wall, built at a cost of Rs3.17 crore, will get live feeds from more than 5,000 closed circuit television cameras installed under the Mumbai sur veillance project.

Mehta said, “We have also linked the system to GPS to get accurate updates of traffic.”

The video wall will also help the disaster management to know where exactly a fire engine is stuck and coordinate with other agencies to command and control the situation with ease.
