21 new positive cases in Maha; Pune, Mumbai lead state tally
WITH THE COUNT OF CASES IN THANE RISING TO 33, THE CIVIC BODY HAS IDENTIFIED 15 HOT SPOTS TO CONTAIN THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS, AN OFFICIAL SAID
MUMBAI: With 21 more persons testing positive for coronavirus in Maharashtra, most of them in Pune and Mumbai, the number of COVID-19 patients went up to 1,385 on Friday, the state health department said.
As per the latest update provided by the health department,pune reported nine new cases followed by Akola (4), Buldhana (2) and Ratnagiri (1).
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said five new c oronavirus posit i ve patients were found in Dharavi, a sprawling slum colony in the metropolis.
Meanwhile, with the count of cases in Thane rising to 33, the civic body here identified 15 hotspots to contain the spread of the pandemic, an official said on Friday. As many as 33 persons from Thane city have tested positive for coronavirus, of which 12 were from Kalwa ward, nine from Mumbra, six from Majiwada-manpada, two each from Lokmanya Nagar and Naupada-kopri zone and one each from Vartak Nagar and Utalsar, deputy municipal commissioner Sandeep Malvai said.
The Thane Municipal Corporation has identified 15 hot spots in the city and declared them as Quarantine Containment zones, he said.
The TMC has declared areas, including Kajuwadi, Dosti Vihar, Happy Valley, Saibaba Nagar, Loda Paradise, Runwal Garden, Dhobi Ali, Vigna Harta building, Manisha Nagar, MG Road, Vrindavan Society and Suryanagar, as quarantine containment zones.
In a related development, 24 of 26 coronavirus patients in the Sangli district have recovered from the infection, and 22 of them have been discharged, local authorities said on Friday.
With 1,385 cases till now, Maharashtra leads among states in the COVID-19 patient count.
