Medical report says Dalit victim hit by blunt object

JAIPUR: The medical report of the 23-year-old Dalit man, who was allegedly tortured by seven people in Nagaur district on February 16, revealed that the victim was hit by a bl unt weapon, because of which he sustained multiple injuries on thorax, back, buttock and thighs.

According to the medical examinatio­n c onducted at Panhcla Siddha primary health care centre on February 19, the day FIR was registered, “Bruise of 12 by 3 centimetre­s (cm) were found on back side of thorax, 11 by 2 cm on upper part of the buttock, 8 by 3 cm on back side of right thighs.”

The reports also said that the duration of injury was three to four days old.

On February 20, after the issue came into the limelight, the civil rights wing of state police ordered for a medical examinatio­n by a board.

Additional director general of police, civil rights, Ravi Prakash Meharda had said that the Nagaur s uperintend­ent of police (SP) was directed to constitute a board for the medical examinatio­n of the victim by a medical a board.

The examinatio­n report by the medical board, headed by medical jurist of Pt JLN Government hospital, Nagaur, Dr Mahaveer Choyal, revealed that multiple bluish color bruises of size 31 by 3 cm and 1 by cm were found on the back side hit by a blunt weapons.

Similarly, brownish colour bruise of size 10 by 1.5 cm were found on left arm and two blackish color bruise of size 14 by 2cm and 13 by 2 cm were found on left side of iliac region (region close to left buttock). Also, a bruise of size 7 by 2 cm were found on left thigh. On anal examinatio­n, slight reddish discolorat­ion was noted in anal regions.

However, t he board has r eserved its f i nal opinion. “Opinion reserved, will be given after receiving FSL report for which relevant samples are preserved, sealed and handed over to concern police station,” the medical jurist said in the report.

At about 2 pm on February 16, the victim, a labourer, and his 18-year-old cousin went to Om Automobile in Karnu Village, about 60 km away from Nagaur town, to get their motorcycle serviced. The labourer went inside the service station, while his cousin waited outside the shop.

“As I was coming out of the shop, I was pushed towards the billing counter by Bhim Singh, who is an employee at the service station. I was accused of st eali ng money kept i n t he locker. Though, I denied the allegation, they started beating me,” said the labourer.

I n t he First I nformation Report (FIR), he claimed that he was tortured. “First, they tied my hands with ropes and then they beat me with rubber belts for the next 15-20 minutes.”

The report added that one of the men then suggested violating him with a screwdrive­r.

Meanwhile, two more incidents of Dalits being beaten up have come to light in the last five days. On Saturday, a video showing a group of people beating up three Dalit men, who allegedly stole five donkeys in Jaisalmer’s Rama village, was widely shared.

On Fri day, a vi deo f r o m Barmer district surfaced on social media, in which a 22-yearold man was seen to be beaten up by three men, who suspected that he had stolen a mobile.
