MODI, NATIONAL ISSUES FOCUS OF CIVIC ELECTIONS

- Mukesh Mathrani htraj@htlive.com

BARMER: With polling for the local body elections to take place on Saturday, the state BJP candidates are seeking votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent national and state-level BJP leaders including Union Home minister Amit Shah and state BJP chief Satish Pooniya, except former chief minister Vasundhara Raje.

While there are posters of senior BJP leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani and JP Nadda, the poster of Raje is conspicuous by its absence. Raje was also ignored by the party in recently held Khiwnsar and Mandawa by-elections.

“BJP will win the local body elections, this time, as people are happy and praising Modi. Surely they will vote in his name,” said BJP leader and UIT chairperson Dr Priyanka Choudhary, adding that a victory in the local body polls will strengthen Modi further. The view was also shared by union minister of state and Barmer MP Kailash Choudhary who is also seeking votes in the name of Modi. Local issues like cleanliness, stray cattle, sewerage and drainage are no longer a part of the campaign.

In his speeches BJP leaders are talking about revocation of article 370 from Kashmir, Ram Mandir and other national issues to impress the voters. Ramesh Panwar, a local resident of ward number 41 in Barmer said that it is political parties strategy. They are encashing their achievements and nothing wrong in this. Both parties are doing thia. But we expect that after coming in power they will work for betterment of area.

BJP leader Kailash Kotariya said Modi has proved the claims of good governance and people have now deep faith in him.
