We have CCTV evidence against lawyers, say police

ALWAR: A day after lawyers in Alwar al l egedly assaulted police personnel, police registered one more FIR against lawyers on Thursday and said it had CCTV evidence against them.

Meanwhile, the lawyers, who are on strike since Saturday’s brawl at Delhi’s Tis Hazari district court, returned to work on Thursday.

Alwar police registered four FIRS against eight named and 10 unidentifi­ed lawyers on charges of assaulting police personnel to deter them from discharge of duty.

Investigat­ion into the five FIRS began on Thursday, officials said.

President of District Bar Associatio­n Udai Singh said work had partly started on Thursday and from Friday, all lawyers will return to work.

Bar Council president of Rajasthan Chiranji Lal Saini reached Alwar on Thursday and held discussion on Wednesday’s incident.

“So far as cases registered by police are concerned, they are free to do their work. But police action should not be partial and must be free and fair. We will take our own action,” he said.

Lawyers staged sit-ins in Kathumar and Ramgarh in support of Delhi lawyers.

Alwar Superinten­dent of Police Paris Deshmukh said that investigat­ion is going on in the case where four police personnel including a woman were beaten and a woman constable was sexually harassed.

The Superinten­dent of Police added that the medical examinatio­n of all the four victims was conducted on Wednesday. The investigat­ing officer, deputy superinten­dent of police Vijay Pal Singh, said police had got “solid evidence in CCTV footage” against the lawyers.

Police said after the assault, there were scuffle between police and l awyers at l east thrice during the day.
