SAIF WISHED SALMAN LUCK BEFORE LEAVING COURTROOM
It was around 11am when the 52-year old Salman Khan entered the court premises flanked by his bodyguard Shera and sisters Alvira and Arpita.
His sartorial elements — body-hugging black shirt with the top button open and blue denims — were consistent with most of the on-screen roles he has played of late.
Fans, commoners and wildlife lovers gathered outside the court campus. While some wanted to catch a glimpse of the star, others waited to see the actor being cut to size by law.
Police officers dotted the court premises as Khan rushed to the first floor of the sessions court building. His co-star in the film Hum Saath Saath Hain and co-accused Neelam and her husband were the first to enter the courtroom of CJM rural, followed by Dushyant Singh, and actors Saif Ali Khan and Sonali Bendre.
As the judgment was pronounced, some say Khan twitched a little.
The others who were let off stayed for another hour, huddling around Khan and assuring him.
Khan, meanwhile, kept talking to his lawyer, who had accompanied him from Mumbai and was heard assuring him.
The other stars left at around 12.30pm. Saif shook hands with Khan and wished him luck before exiting the court.
At 2.08pm, the judge pronounced the quantum of punishment, sentencing Khan to five years in jail.
While Khan was visibly worried, his sisters had tears in their eyes.
Though the actor’s lawyers applied for bail in the sessions court soon after the sentencing, it will be heard on Friday.
At 2.45pm, the actor left the court in a police car for Jodhpur Central Jail, where he would spend the night, his fourth in connection with the case.
He was earlier in jail from October 15 to October 17, 1998, before the case came up in the court.
