Two kids, elderly woman injured in leopard attack in Sawai Madhopur

Two children and an elderly woman were injured after a leopard attacked them at Khattupura village under City Kotwali police station in Sawai Madhopur district on Monday.

The leopard was later tranquilis­ed by a special forest team, said Ranthambor­e National Park director Bijo Joy. He said the big cat will be released into the park after treatment.

The injured, identified as Sahil Khan, 12, Fejan Khan, 8 and their grandmothe­r Ameen, 60, have been admitted to the district government.

According to informatio­n, the two children were returning home from school when the leopard attacked them in the afternoon.

After that the big cat entered their home and attacked the elderly woman. Later, the leopard hid itself in the house.

As the news of leopard’s presence spread, villagers gathered around the house to see the animal. After being informed, a police and forest department also reached the site.

After a couple of hours’ effort, the forest team tranquilis­ed the big cat.

Khattupura village, located along the Mumbai-Kota railway route, is situated on periphery of the Ranthambor­e National Park.

This year on January 11, a 55-year-old farmer was injured in a tiger attack in the village.

Besides, there were more than a dozen incidents of attack by big cats in Kuddalpura, Sherpur and Khilchipur villages under Khandar sub-division in which many people were either killed or injured this year.
