Mains topper fails to repeat performanc­e

Kalpit Veerwal, who was in news for topping JEE Mains 2017, has topped the scheduled caste (SC) category of JEE Advanced 2017.

The Udaipur native has secured All India Rank (AIR) 109 in the general category of JEE Advanced 2017.

Veerwal had grabbed headlines after emerging the topper of JEE Mains 2017, the results of which was declared on April 27.

“Scoring AIR 109 in JEE Advanced 2017 among 2.20 lakh aspirants is not a minor achievemen­t. I am satisfied with my AIR rank. I am happy that I have topped the SC category of JEE advanced,” said Veerwal, who has scored 303 marks out of 366 in JEE Advanced 2017.

“First I will do B.Tech from IIT and then I will decide about the future,” added Veerwal, who studied at the Kota-based Resonance Eduventure­s Private Limited coaching institute.

Kalpit, whose father is a compounder at Maharana Bhupal Government Hospital and mother is a government school teacher, became the first ever in the country to score 100% (360 marks out of 360) in the JEE Mains 2017.

Veerwal, who is fond of playing cricket, badminton and music, scored 95.2% in Class 12 board exams. Talking about his JEE Advanced 2017 preparatio­ns, Veerwal said that he solved test papers, attended dedicated JEE advanced coaching classes, revised study material and studied around 10- 12 hours a day.

I was confident of being in the top 10. Support from my parents and teachers helped me succeed... I stayed away from all kinds of distractio­ns including smartphone­s and movies.
