THE ONGOING TEST SERIES WOULD HAVE BEEN A CHANCE FOR HIS TO CEMENT HIS PLACE

MUMBAI: India’s limited overs opener Rohit Sharma has indicated that he would start his batting practice sessions soon as he prepares to recover from a thigh injury which he suffered during the fifth ODI against New Zealand in Vizag in October.

Rohit Sharma had injured himself while taking a run but continued batting which aggravated his injury. He was rushed to London for consultation where he underwent a surgery that will keep him out of action for nearly 12 weeks.

“I can’t give a date of when I will return to action but my rehab is going well. I will soon start with my net sessions,” said Rohit during Tuesday’s interaction on Facebook.

Having scored 238 in the three Tests against New Zealand, the ongoing England Test series would have been a bigger opportunity for the Mumbai batsman to cement his place. However, the injury at a wrong time may have disrupted his plans.

Rohit though seemed to be in a happy space despite the setback. “Injury is part of one’s career. Yes, it is unfortunate but it is not in anyone’s control. I am concentrating on my rehab and I am thinking on being in a positive state of mind. It is important to stay positive because the biggest challenge after returning from an injury is to stay mentally positive,” said Rohit.

Regarding the New Zealand series, Rohit Sharma said: “You’re always put under pressure in different situations, from which you have to react. In that regard, the last series was great for me, personally.

“However, the fact that we won 3-0 was more important for me rather than my performances. Performances will keep happening and sometimes you won’t do well, but what is important is that the team does well and remains at the top (of the ICC Test Championship).”
