Turnout 63% in three seats of J’khand, 3% less than in 2019

RANCHI: Around 63% of the 58.35 voters exercised their franchise to seal fortune of 54 candidates across Chatra, Hazaribag and Koderma Lok Sabha seats as part of the fifth phase of polling for the ongoing parliament­ary elections, officials said.

The turnout data, available till 7pm, was over three percent lesser as compared to 2019 when the average of these three constituen­cies stood at 66.15 per cent.

“The average turnout till 7pm stood at 63 per cent. The number is set to increase as voting was still on at few polling booths after 5pm, especially in Gandey. The number of postal ballots is to be added to the EVM data we are sharing today,” said chief electoral officer K Ravi Kumar.

Individual­ly, the voter turnout in Chatra was 62.96%, it was 61.86% in Koderma while Hazaribagh witnessed maximum turnout of 64.32%.

compared to 2019.

Meanwhile, seven cases of model code violations were registered across the three seats, officials said while three incidents poll violation was also recorded.

Two booths witnessed poll boycott in Hazaribagh and one

booth in Panki under Chatra seat, officials said.

Meanwhile, no incident of violence was reported in the three seats, spread across seven districts and bordering three states, despite areas of Chatra and Giridih being naxalprone.

“There were 65 booths where polling party was helidroppe­d. Voting was conducted peacefully even on those booths. Around 44,000 security personnel of central force and state police were deployed for the election,” said AV Homkar, inspector general (operations).
