Medical colleges to get new principals, superintendents
DHANBAD: Patliputra Medical College Hospital (PMCH) in Dhanbad and Mahatma Gandhi Medical College Hospital (MGMCH) in Jamshedpur are likely to get new principals and superintendents soon, officials said on Sunday.
Additional chief secretary (health) K Vidyasagar called a meeting in Ranchi on August 23 to review the faculty status at PMCH and MGMCH. He asked principals and superintendents of the medical colleges to submit reports on teachers required and vacancies, a senior health official said.
“Reshuffling of administrators of both the medical colleges is on the cards. Principals and superintendents will be appointed on the basis of seniority,” the official said, requesting not to be quoted.
The meeting will also discuss the steps taken by the medical colleges to overcome deficiencies pointed out by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
The council, which monitors medical education standards, allowed PMCH and MGMCH to retain 100 MBBS seats in May after Vidyasagar gave an undertaking that deficiencies of the institutions would be plugged in three months.
“Since August 31 is the last date to meet the MCI deadline, the additional chief secretary has called the meeting on August 23 to review medical colleges’ progress reports,” the official said.
Principals and superintendents of PMCH and MGMCH have been changed three times since July 2010.
According to a seniority list of teachers released by the state health department on December 7 last year, Dr PN Singh (PMCH), Dr Arun Kumar (PMCH), Dr AN Mishra (MGMCH) and Dr Kameswer Biswas (PMCH) are senior-most professors and entitled to top administrative posts.
According to MCI guidelines, senior-most professors would be principals of medical colleges.
Though Dr Vijay Narayan, head of the eye department in MGMCH, is the senior-most teacher in both the institutions, he is out of race since he is scheduled to retire on September 1.
