Hasten revaluation for JEE aspirants, govt tells boards
NEW DELHI: The HRD ministry has asked all the education boards to give priority to revaluation applications of students appearing for competitive examinations for premier technical institutes to ensure they don’t lose an academic year in case of change in their Class XII results.
According to senior officials, there have been cases where revaluation resulted in a significant change in the marks, which affects overall ranking of these students.
“It is yet to be finalized but the ministry has suggested the boards to give such students priority so that their results can be finalized before submission to JEE,” a senior ministry official said.
The sources said there have been instances wherein after revaluation, students have passed examination though they had initially failed. “In such a scenario, a student wouldn’t have been allowed to sit for the competitive exam. Hence, if the revaluation results are declared on priority, we can save a precious year for the students. The Boards were requested to look into the matter during our recent meet,” a senior ministry official said.
According to the official, the issue was discussed in a meeting with 37 state school education boards and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) held recently. Most of the states had agreed to declare the revaluation results also on time, the official added.
According to officials, an early declaration of re-evaluation result will help the candidate because in JEE-Mains 40% weightage is given to Board results.
The JEE-Mains are held for admissions in centrally- funded technical institutions and participating institution. Candidates clearing the JEE-Mains can sit for the JEE Advanced, the examination which is a gateway to prestigious IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology).
“The process of rechecking is time consuming since a particular student’s answer sheet has to be searched among lakhs of copies. Further, to ensure accuracy, the paper checking happens at three levels. But the issue is being considered,” said a senior official.
Recently, the ministry had recommended to the states to declare Class XII results before May 31, to ensure the counseling process of IITs and NITs (National Institutes Of Technology) are not delayed.
A number of state boards, i ncluding t hose of Bihar, Jharkhand, Telangana, Assam, Kerala and Karnataka, have delayed submitting their results in the past, leading to delays in publishing ranking lists which in turn delayed the joint counselling for admissions to IITs and NITs.
