Cornered by cops, 3 Punjab gangsters ‘commit suicide’

: Three wanted criminals from Punjab owing allegiance to notorious gangster Vicky Gounder allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday in Haryana after they were surrounded by police.

The gangsters were identified as Kamaljeet Singh alias Bunty Dhillon,22, Jaspreet Singh, 27, alias Jumpy Don, both residents of Jaitu in Faridkot, and Nishan Singh, 23, resident of Ferozepur.

While Dhillon and Jumpy both category A gangsters - died on the spot, Nishan , succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Faridkot police, led by inspector Amritpal Singh, along with its counterpar­ts in Haryana surrounded a house in a village near Dabwali town in Sirsa district around 4 am and asked them to surrender, said Bathinda zone inspector MS Chhina said.

“In retaliatio­n, the gangsters fired at the police and there was crossfire. When the firing stopped, police party went inside the house and found two gangsters lying dead while the third was grievously hurt,” said Chhina.

One .315 bore rifle with six live cartridges, three pistols with 85 live cartridges, one .32 bore revolver, a Scorpio car, two mobile phones and ₹20, 000 were also recovered. IGP said the gangsters committed suicide after being cornered.

“The circumstan­tial evidence suggests either Bunty or Jumpy fired at Nishan Singh who suffered a bullet injury in his chest. After considerin­g Nishan dead, they shot themselves,” said Chhina.

Police said the three were initially members of gangster Devinder Bambiha who was killed in an encounter in 2016. “After Bambiha’s death, the y started working with Vicky Gounder’s gang,” said police. Gounder had escaped from the high security Nabha jail in November last year.
