BHU prepares proforma to assess Ayurvedic medicines’ effectiveness

-

VARANASI: Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical SciencesBHU (IMS-BHU) submitted a proforma to Uttar Pradesh government which will help record the effectiveness of ayurvedic medicines being used to treat various diseases, on Saturday. Using the proforma, a databank on the effectiveness of Ayurvedic medicines will be created.

A two-member team comprising Prof Yamini Bhushan Tripathi and Vaidya Prof Sushil Kumar Dubey have designed the proforma. “A copy of it has been sent to the director, Ayurveda, Prof SN Singh and additional chief secretary Ayush Prashant Trivedi by mail,” said Vaidya Dubey

In the first phase, which would last three months, the assessment of the effectiveness of 50 ayurvedic medicines, which are used in the treatment of various diseases, would be done. In the second phase, the assessment of the effectiveness of 50 more medicines is on the card, Dubey said.

Dubey said that Ayurvedic practitioners across the state would record the name, age, disease and Ayurvedic medicines used in treatment, and the time in which the patient recovered.

For example, when a person suffering from fever consults a vaidya at a Government Ayurvedic hospital, his name, age, and ailment will be noted. The patient would be then prescribed Ayurvedic medicines used in controlling fever. The vaidya will then examine the patient on the seventh day and record if the ayurvedic medicines were effective in curing the fever or not.

In cases of patients suffering from chronic disease, the impact will be recorded on the seventh, 15th and 30th day, said Dubey.
