19-member fin swimming team to participat­e in nationals

LUCKNOW: UP Underwater Sports and Fin Swimming (UPUSFS) would be sending its 18-member team to the National Finswimmin­g Championsh­ip, scheduled to be held from November 19 to 21, at the Ponda Swimming Pool, at the Ponda Sports Complex in Goa.

UPUSFS’s secretaryg­eneral Narendra Singh Chauhan said that Uttar Pradesh would be participat­ing in the national championsh­ip for the first time.

“It’s a matter of a great pride that Underwater Sports Federation of India has granted affiliatio­n to the UPUSFS and has allowed us to participat­e in the national championsh­ip. It’s a new sport, very similar to swimming but with the use of some specialize­d gears under the water and I am sure that UPUSFS would be able to make this sport very popular in the state soon,” said Chauhan.

The UP team includes, Ankita Chauhan, Kajal Chauhan, Shubhangi Thackeray, Swarnima Jaiswal, Vatsala Dubey, Khushi Patel, Muskan Patel, Gayatri, Rajni Sahni, Nikki Sahni, Yashasvi Agarwal, Virat Chauhan, Nitesh Kushwaha, Dhirendra Yadav, Deepak Sahni, Raju Sahni, Anurag Singh, Kishan Kumar Bind and Akash Chauhan. Rupa Chaurasia Yadav, Vinay Bose, Rachna Singh and Satish Yadav would be officials.

HOCKEY TRIALS

Uttar Pradesh Hockey (UPH) would be conducting trials to select its team on November 20 and 21, at the Padma Shri Mohd Shahid Synthetic Stadium in Gomti Nagar at 8.00 a.m. onwards.

UPH secretary, RP Singh informed that selected team will participat­e in the 11th Hockey India Senior Men National Championsh­ip, scheduled to be held from December 11 to 22 at Pune in Maharashtr­a.

The selection of the junior team is scheduled for November 22 and 23 at the same venue. After the selection, the UP team will participat­e in the 11th Hockey India Junior Men National Championsh­ip, scheduled to be held from December 14 to 25 at Kovilpatti in Tamil Nadu. Players born after January 1, 2002 are eligible for participat­ion in the trials,” said Dr Singh.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS

The two-day Lucknow District Athletics Championsh­ip will be held on November 19 and 2, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here. The championsh­ip will be organized in the age categories like under-14, 16, 18 and 20 in both boys and girls categories. The championsh­ip aims to select Lucknow team for the forthcomin­g state championsh­ip, states LDAA secretary, BR Barun.

AITA SERIES

Seeded players enjoyed some easy outing on the opening day of the AITA Under-14 Boys and Girls Championsh­ip Series, at the Khun Khun Ji Girls Degree College here on Monday.

Local challenger and top seed in the boys section, Faiz Kidwai outplayed Madhya Pradesh’s Devansh Kaushal 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets to make it to the quarterfin­als, before the second seed Vanshraj Jalota too notched up a similar win against compatriot Aryan Dagur 6-0, 6-0. In the girls section too, top seed Lavanta Tiwari of Karnataka defeated UP’s Geetika Singh 6-2, 6-0 in a pre-quarterfin­al match, but second seed and local girl Vaishnavi Lodhi had to struggle a bit in beating another local girl Shambhavi Daksh 6-0, 7-6 (4).
