UP looks for bounce-back after Covid-19 impact on revenue

THE STATE GOVERNMENT IS ESTIMATED TO GET A SUM OF RS 1,19,395.30 CRORE FROM CENTRAL TAXES AND DUTIES

LUCKNOW : The Uttar Pradesh government hopes to get a larger share in taxes and more benefits from the central schemes that union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in the Union Budget2021-22 in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

The state government is likely to get Rs 98,618.07 crore from the central taxes and duties in current fiscal 2020-21, much lower than the estimates in view of restrictio­ns caused by the fight against Covid-19.

On the other hand, the state government is now estimated to get a sum of Rs 1,19,395.30 crore from central taxes and duties as per the indication­s given in the Union Budget for 2021-22.

“It’s not only Uttar Pradesh. The share of all the states came down in view of lower tax collection­s due to Covid-19 restrictio­ns,” said a senior officer.

Neverthele­ss, the state government hopes to get larger benefits from the schemes announced in the Union Budget for 2021-22.

“PM Atmanirbha­r, Swastha Bharat Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission and the scheme for nutrition are three new schemes that we hope will benefit us. We also hope that Uttar Pradesh will get larger benefits from these schemes,” said another officer of the state government not wishing to be named.

Uttar Pradesh is also eager to make the most of the some of the other announceme­nts made in the Union Budget 2021-22. Another officer said the state was bound to get its share in the Sainik schools and mega textile parks.
