LUCKNOW : Despite the government’s push to Covid-19 vaccination, 33 of 100 healthcare workers registered to receive the vaccine shot at the community health centre (CHC) Mohanlalganj, gave it a miss on the inaugural day - Saturday - of the mass Covid-19 vaccination drive.

The CHC, located some 20 kilometers from the district headquarters, was one of the vaccination centres. Some 105 vials of Serum Institute’s Covishield vaccine were sent to the CHC for the drive.

CHC in-charge Jyoti Kamle said, “A total of 67 persons including 50 women and 17 males took the vaccine shot at our centre today. The remaining 33 people didn’t appear to receive it.” The information about people who skipped the vaccination will be shared with the health department and they will probably be accommodated in the coming days, she added.

Uttar Pradesh health minister Jai Pratap Singh reached the centre in the afternoon and inspected the arrangements. “It is a very proud movement for all of us. We will always be indebted to our healthcare workers for their role in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. I urge everyone to take the vaccine to end the pandemic,” Singh said.

Two vaccination centres were set up at the new building inside the CHC for the drive. A trained vaccinator was deployed for administering the shot.

Dr Anil Kumar, 58, a dental expert, took the first shot of the vaccine at the centre at 11:15 am. Kumar, like others listed for vaccination, was screened for high temperature at the entrance of the vaccination centre. Police personnel deployed at the gates then checked his ID card and matched it with the list they had before allowing him inside for vaccination.

Everyone listed for vaccination was screened in a similar manner.
