Revised voters’ list published: UP now has 14.66 crore voters
LUCKNOW: The number of voters in Uttar Pradesh has increased from 14.56 to 14.66 crore and the number of young voters (18-19 years) has gone up from 3.50 lakh to 7.42 lakh. The revised voters’ list was published on Friday, chief electoral officer, Uttar Pradesh, Kumar Shukla said.
The number of women voters increased from 6.69 crore to 6.74 crore and the female-male ratio in the voters’ list now is 851/1000. Shukla said the revision of electoral rolls was carried out from November 17 to December 15 last year to include the names of the voters who
Ajay were eligible on January 1, 2021 for inclusion of their names. The exercise was carried out in all 403 assembly constituencies of the state during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Election Commission invited claims and objections from people.
Along with correcting the details, the names of voters appearing twice was removed.
In all, the names of 7.85 lakh voters were removed, including 4.04 lakh deceased, 2.68 lakh who had shifted and 1.05 lakh repeated names. The tagging of the 8.67 lakh handicap voters was done, Shukla said.
The number of the polling stations in the state now stands at 1,63,494. The Election Commission had appointed observers in 18 divisions. Instructions were given to the district election officers and registration officers through video-conference. The officers of the Election Commission visited the districts during the revision exercise. Meetings were also held with representatives of the recognised national and state- level political parties, Shukla said.
