MINISTER AMONG 792 NEW CASES IN LUCKNOW

LUCKNOW : Cabinet minister Sidharth Nath Singh was among 792 people who tested positive for the Covid-19 infection in Lucknow on Thursday. Twelve more corona-afflicted people, including two heart patients, died in the last 24 hours, taking the state capital’s death toll to 323. “With early symptoms, I got the test done for Covid-19 and the report came positive. I am fine and, on advice of doctors, I am in home isolation. Those who came in my contact in recent past may get themselves tested,” the minister tweeted.

Twelve more coronaviru­s-afflicted people, including two heart patients, died in the last 24 hours, taking the state capital’s death toll to 323.

“With early symptoms, I got the test done for Covid-19 and the report came positive. I am fine and, on the advice of the doctors, I am in home isolation. Those who came in my contact in the recent past may get themselves tested,” the minister tweeted.

The tally of Covid-19 infections in Lucknow has increased to 24,468 since the first case here was reported on March 11. As many as 800 patients were discharged during the day, outnumberi­ng the new infection cases by eight. Till now, 17,354 patients have been discharged in Lucknow where 4,052 people gave their samples for lab tests on Thursday.

The new cases were reported from Indira Nagar (41), Thakurganj (35), Talkatora (32), Hasanganj (27), Gomti Nagar (47), Mahanagar (29), Hazratganj (25), Madiaon (27), Rae Bareli Road (16), Chowk (11), Jankipuram (23), Vikas Nagar (15), Saadatganj (17), Gudamba (18), Krishnanag­ar (32), Cantt (27), Alambagh (27), Bazarkhala (13), Ashiana (28), Naka (13), Para (14), Aminabad (13) and Aliganj (22).

Among those who tested positive in the last 24 hours, 90 opted for home isolation.

Till now, 14,943 patients have opted for home isolation in the state capital and 9,917 have recovered. Currently, 5026 patients are in home isolation in Lucknow.

Those who died included a 64-year-old man from Dohrighat in Mau. He was admitted to the corona ward at King George’s Medical University on August 26. “He died due to cardiopulm­onary arrest,” said Dr Sudhir Singh, KGMU spokespers­on.

A 66-year-old-man from Ambedkarna­gar died at KGMU. “He had high blood pressure and diabetes. He died of cardiopulm­onary arrest,” said Dr Singh.

A 26-year-old woman from Deoria died on Friday.

“She was a patient of rheumatic heart disease and the heart valves were damaged. A portion of the heart got enlarged and she died due to it,” said Dr Singh.

An 81-year-old man from Lakhimpur Kheri, who was admitted on August 16, also died at KGMU. “He had coronary artery syndrome. He died due to cardiogeni­c shock,” said Dr Singh.

TRUENAT MACHINE INSTALLED

Healthcity Trauma centre and Super Speciality Hospital in Gomtinagar has installed a TrueNat machine for testing Covid-19 samples of patients.

Dr Sandeep Kapoor, director of the hospital, said, “ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research)-approved NABL (National Accreditat­ion Board for Testing and Calibratio­n Laboratori­es) testing lab for Covid-19 will be doing RT-PCR (reverse transcript­ion-polymerase chain reaction) test using TrueNat machine. This will ensure there is no delay for patients in need of medical care or surgery at the time of admission.”He said the machine would give accurate and quick results to know the infection status of an individual. “With Covid-19 test becoming mandatory before surgeries, the setting up of such labs will help the patients,” he said.
