-

LUCKNOW : The state government on Sunday recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the kidnapping and murder of lab technician Sanjeet Yadav in Kanpur.

Additional chief secretary (ACS), home Awanish Awasthi confirmed that the UP government had decided to recommend CBI inquiry into the case which occurred under Barra police station limits of Kanpur. He said the recommendation was made on the request of the victim’s family.

The state government had earlier suspended 10 cops, including a woman IPS officer Aparna Gupta, who was posted as ASP south, Kanpur, the then circle officer Govind Nagar, Manoj Gupta, the then inspector of Barra police station Ranjeet Rai and sub-inspector Rajesh Kumar, for their negligence in the matter.

The government had also deputed additional director general (ADG) rank police officer BP Jogdand to probe the controversy over paying ransom to kidnappers in the knowledge of police.

The victim’s sister Ruchi had alleged negligence and delayed action by Kanpur police, after her brother went missing on the evening of June 22. She had even alleged that her family arranged ₹30 lakh after getting ransom call from kidnappers on June 29 and delivered the amount to them as per the planning of Kanpur police to trap them when they turned up to collect it. She said the police plan failed as the kidnappers made the family drop the bag from over a bridge on July 13 easily disappeared after collecting the cash.
