FOUR MORE DEATHS, 147 FRESH CORONA CASES

LUCKNOW/VARANASI/KANPUR: The state on Thursday reported at least four deaths and 147 fresh coronaviru­s cases. The tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 3,902, according to the data released by the state health department. The death toll has gone up to 90 with the latest fatalities reported from Varanasi, Meerut, Pratapgarh and Kanpur.

The tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 3,902, according to the data released by the state health department. The death toll has gone up to 90 with the latest fatalities reported from Varanasi, Meerut, Pratapgarh and Kanpur.

During the day, 107 patients were discharged across the state, taking the total number of cured patents to 2,072. The number of active cases now stands at 1,742.

A report from Kanpur said a 72-year-old man died due to coronaviru­s at Naya Chowk in Moolganj on Thursday. He was admitted to hospital on May 12.

In Varanasi, a 58-year-old woman died of coronaviru­s on Thursday, the district administra­tion said. Subdvision­al magistrate Pramod Kumar confirmed the death. This is the second death of a Covid-19 patient in Varanasi district. According to a senior health department official Dr VB Singh, the woman was admitted to BHU super speciality hospital on May 4. She was a resident of Lallapura, a coronaviru­s hotspot. Her sample was collected on May 4 and sent to the BHU laboratory for testing. A patient of diabetes, hypertensi­on and hyperthyro­idism for the last 15 years, she tested positive on May 6 and was shifted to the isolation ward.

According to the doctor who treated her, the woman was admitted to hospital for severe acute respirator­y infection. After she tested positive, samples of her son and daughter-in-law were collected two days later. Both tested positive and are under treatment.

Besides, the Sharjah returnee, three men and two women in Lucknow were also found infected with Sars-Cov-2. Three of them are from Gomti Nagar and two from the Sadar area. Lucknow has 11 hotspots and the majority of cases have come from the Sadar area. During the day, teams took samples of 238 people in different areas of the city.
