LUCKNOW: Five cops, including a sub inspector posted at Amethi police station were suspended after complaint of manhandling by a local right wing politician on Tuesday. The suspended cops have been asked to submit written explanation and the investigation has been handed over to the circle officer of the area.
Circle Officer(CO) Piyush Kant Rai said, “Police detained Rahul Shukla and Manvendra Singh who were fighting with each other in an inebriated state on Monday night. They were kept at the police outpost and released later. They have accused the police of torture and manhandling.”
Manvendra Singh is said to be a member of a right wing political organisation. His brother and other family members were also office-bearers of the organisation, cops added.

“Considering the complaint we have suspended sub inspector Vijay Singh who was on duty, as well as four constables: Sunil Yadav, Chandrabhan, Deepak Yadav and Santwind Yadav who allegedly manhandled them. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated. We will also lodge an FIR if the allegations are found to be true in the internal inquiry.”
SP of Amethi Khyati Garg could not be reached for comment. This is the second such incident of police excesses in Amethi this year.
In August, a 35-year-old man died in police custody allegedly after being tortured by the cops at Inhauna outpost.
