LUCKNOW : General secretary of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) faculty forum Dr MS Ansari has written to governor Ram Naik, alleging that PGI director professor Rakesh Kapoor is holding two posts in the institute at the same time which is against the norms of the Medical Council of India.

He said, “The supreme statutory body for medical education, the Medical Council of India (MCI) clearly states in its regulations 1998, (amended up to May, 2015) that “dean/principal/director of medical college/ institution and the medical superintendent who is head of the affiliated teaching hospital can be in charge of a unit but cannot be head of the department (HoD) in the medical college/institution. However, he/ she can teach and practise in the department concerned.”

Dr Ansari said the current director of SGPGIMSwas also occupying the post of the head of the department of urology in the same institute, which was unjust and had demoralized many senior faculty members.

This was evidently an important reason for the constant exodus of many highly talented faculty

from the SGPGI in the recent past, he said.

However, director SGPGIMS professor Rakesh Kapoor said that he had already replied to the charges in the past.

He said that he had appointed professor Anish Srivastava as officiating head of department. Besides, the PGI rules allowed only the senior most person to officiate as head of the department.

“The faculty forum has never raised any such issue before me but there are a few individuals who are raising this irrelevant matter without the consent of majority of faculty forum members,” said professor Kapoor.

President of SGPGIMS faculty forum Dr Ashok Kumar said that he had been abroad for a long time so he had no knowledge about the matter.
