‘Rs 32,000 crore spent on Kashi’s growth should reflect on ground’

VARANASI : State urban developmen­t minister Suresh Khanna on Wednesday directed the officials to ensure timely completion of developmen­t projects and said it should reflect on the ground that Rs 32,000 crore had been spent for Varanasi’s developmen­t. Varanasi is the parliament­ary constituen­cy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Ensure completion of water treatment plant by December 31. Ensure supply of water to all new and old water tanks in the city. Deadline means deadline,” Khanna told Jal Kal officials.

He asked the officials to send progress report of works related to sanitation, water supply and sewage system every week.

Khanna asked the municipal corporatio­n officials to ensure 95 per cent recovery of water, property and house tax.

Presently, 36,000 LED lights and 4,500 heritage lights are installed in the city. Heritage lights worth Rs 15 crore and LED lights worth Rs 10 crore would be installed in the city by December, he said.

“The municipal corporatio­n should ensure proper maintenanc­e of lights,” he said.

A clean ward survey will be carried out between November 15 and December 15 and the best ward of each city would be honored on December 23 at district headquarte­rs, Khanna said.

He added that the ward adjudged as the best in cleanlines­s in the state would be feted in Lucknow on December 25.
