CM to inaugurate three new facilities at SGPGIMS today

THE CHIEF MINISTER WILL ALSO LAY THE FOUNDATION STONES OF THE EMERGENCY MEDICINE AND RENAL TRANSPLANT DEPTS ON THE DAY

-

LUCKNOW : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will lay the foundation stones of the departments of emergency medicine and renal transplant at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) here on Monday.

These new departments are expected to bring huge relief to patients requiring emergency care, as till now, most of them were being turned back from the PGI, with only a few VVIPs getting admitted.

The chief minister is also expected to inaugurate three new facilities -- hepatobiliary & transplantation, haematology and bone marrow transplantation & stem cell unit, and the College of Technology -- at a programme on the PGI campus on the same day.

Institute director Prof Rakesh Kapoor said, “A 250-bed emergency medicine building will come up on the SGPGIMS campus.

This will help us in treating more emergency patients than before. At present, there are only 30 beds in emergency medicine and most of the times they are occupied.”

The work of renal transplant will also get a new impetus with a separate building dedicated to the renal transplant department coming up on campus. Right now, PGI performs around 130 kidney transplants a year. “However, with this new facility, the number of kidney transplants being carried out here could double,” said Prof Kapoor.

Work on liver transplant, which was stopped at the premier medical institute for nearly a decade after the failure of some cases, is also expected to pick up again after the inauguration of the hepatobiliary and transplantation unit.
