22-yr-old youth held for raping his 9-year-old relative

LUCKNOW: A 22-year-old youth was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl when she was alone at her house in Sarojini Nagar on Monday evening. Police said the accused is a close relative of the girl and was frequent visitor to her house.

District police spokesperson Arun Kumar said the accused Ethad alias Sonu had escaped from his house before the police team could arrest him on Tuesday after receiving complaint from the girl’s elder brother.

He said the police were continuously keeping tab on movement of the accused who works as welder, and succeeded in arresting him on Wednesday morning when he tried to meet his family members near his house in Sarojininagar.

He said an FIR under IPC sections 376 for rape, 506 for criminal intimidation, 452 for criminal house trespass and charges were also slapped against him under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Kumar said the complainant told the cops that the incident occurred on Monday evening when the girl’s family had gone out to attend some function. He said the girl was alone in the house and the girl’s family had asked the accused to take care of the girl in their absence.

He said the accused allegedly raped the girl taking advantage of her loneliness. He said the girl narrated the entire sequence of event to her parents when the family returned home on Monday night.

He said the girl has been sent for medical examination and further investigation in the case is going on.

He said the process of getting her statement recorded before the judicial magistrate has been initiated.

POLICE SPOKESPERSON SAID THE GIRL’S FAMILY HAD ASKED THE ACCUSED TO TAKE CARE OF HER IN THEIR ABSENCE
