Ashutosh excels in C division

LUCKNOW: An all-round performanc­e by Ashutosh Pratap Singh helped Asha Foundation notch up a facile 124-run win against Bharat Club in a C division league match of the Cricket Associatio­n Lucknow, at the Northern Railway Stadium here on Tuesday.

Ashutosh first struck 138-ball 103, which contained 14 hits to the fence as Asha Foundation piled up 218/4 in 40 overs while batting first after winning the toss. Later, he took 6/24 to see Bharat Club collapsing for paltry 94 in 24.1 overs. In other matches of the day, Lucknow Cricket Nursery crushed Jubilee Cricket Academy by nine wickets, whereas Mehta Cricket Club scored a thrilling one-wicket win against Paramount Club.

Vishal Mehta, Asif, Rohit Tewari and Mohit Tewari took two wickets each as Paramount Club could make 153/9 in 36 overs while batting first after winning the toss.

Deepak Yadav top scored with 29, whereas Rajesh Rana (27) and Abhishek Pandey (25) too scored in double figure.

In reply, Mehta Club though had a fine start as openers Salman (30) and Amit Mehta (19) sticthed together 52 runs for the opening wicket, they lost quick wickets once the openers departed. However, it was Rohit Tewari, who turned the table in team’s favour, hitting unbeaten 27 in 34 balls with the help of three fours as side reached home in 30.1 overs with one wicket to spare.

EASY VICTORY

Nagar Ayukt XI defeated Mayor XI by 58 runs in a league match of the Nagar Nigam Cricket Tournament, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Tuesday. Nagar Ayukt XI scored 181/4 in 20 overs and then restricted the rivals for 123/8. Sohaib and Deepak shared four wickets between them.

CHESS TOURNEY

The AD Pathak Memorial Open Chess Championsh­ip will be held on April 21 and 22, at the Excelia School near the Ambedkar University here. Besides the open event, the championsh­ip would witness events for boys/ girls in under-7, 9, 11, 13 and 15 and a sum of Rs 25,100 would be distribute­d among the winners.
