CEC WORKING FOR PM, ACCUSES AAP LEADER
LUCKNOW: Aam Admi Party’s (AAP’s) national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said here on Saturday that the Chief Election Commissioner AK Jyoti was working for the Prime Minister and the decision to recommend disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs for holding 'office of profit' was at the behest of the BJP government.
Showing the appointment letters of the 20 MLAs, Sanjay said it was clearly mentioned in their appointment letters that they “will not be eligible for any remuneration or any perks of any kind from the government”.
“Then what was the logic behind saying they were holding office of profit?” he asked.
“There have been examples where members holding office of profit were never disqualified. Take the example of Himanchal Pradesh, Haryana and West Bengal where in similar cases, membership of the MLAs was not cancelled. Then what was the basis for AAP MLAs disqualification,” Singh said at a press conference.
AAP has filed a case in the Delhi high court and hearing will take place on Monday .
Interim relief in this matter was denied. Accusing the CEC of working as agent of BJP, Singh said, “Jyoti has shown wafadari (loyalty) for his malik (boss) Modi. It’s like giving capital punishment to someone without trial.”
Sanjay further said that if the CEC, who had three days left for his retirement, should speak out about what wrong he did.
“The central government is violating rules from various institutions of democracy and four judges coming out in the open and addressing the media is another example of the same,” he said.
