GOVT SANCTIONS ADDL R10 CRORE FOR IIITLUCKNO­W

ALLAHABAD: The state government has sanctioned an additional amount of Rs 10 crore for the completion of constructi­on work at the Indian Institute of Informatio­n Technology (IIIT) in Lucknow. The sanction is in response to a request made by director (technical education) Kafil Ahmad through a letter dated November 6. The total amount made available for IIIT-Lucknow is Rs 52.86 cr.

ALLAHABAD: The state government has sanctioned an additional amount of Rs 10 crore for the completion of constructi­on work at the Indian Institute of Informatio­n Technology (IIIT) in Lucknow.

The sanction is in response to a request made by director (technical education) Kafil Ahmad through a letter dated November 6.

With additional funds, the total amount made available for IIITLuckno­w is Rs 52.86 crore.

“Special secretary, technical education, Surjan Singh has conveyed the decision of sanction of funds to the director (technical education) through a missive dated December 13. A copy of the letter has also been sent to director, IIIT-Allahabad, Prof P Nagabhusha­n,” said IIIT-Lucknow spokesman Pankaj Mishra.

According to the letter, Rs 42.86 crore has earlier been released for IIIT-Lucknow which includes Rs 15 crore as central government’s share and Rs 18.26 crore as the state’s share.

Another Rs 9.60 crore as share of industry partner UP Electronic­s Corporatio­n Ltd has also been released.

The central government is setting up 20 IIITs, including the one at Lucknow, under the publicpriv­ate partnershi­p (PPP) model.

The permanent campus of IIITLuckno­w is coming up on 50 acres of land at Chak Ganjariya. The institute is temporaril­y operating from the Jhalwa campus of IIITAllaha­bad.

According to sources, the state government is keen on getting the constructi­on work of IIIT-Lucknow completed at the earliest and enable it to function from its own campus.

IIIT-Lucknow admitted the first batch of students for BTech in informatio­n technology course with an intake of 50 candidates in the academic session 2015-16. The second batch of 50 students was admitted in 2016-17.

“Admissions were made through central counsellin­g of candidates who cleared the Joint Entrance Examinatio­n (mains). All the 100 candidates are pursuing their course at IIIT Jhalwa campus,” Mishra added.

IIIT-Lucknow is in the process of recruiting teachers on contractua­l basis as guest faculty.

The last date for online submission of applicatio­ns for interested eligible candidates is December 27 and the tentative date of interview of shortliste­d candidates is January 2-3.
