UGC for effective grievance redressal at univs, colleges
ALLAHABAD: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked all universities in the country to put up notice boards to ensure awareness about their grievance redress mechanism as well as the commission’s students’ grievances portal.
The universities have also been asked by the higher education regulator to ensure that they have grievance redress cells manned by a nodal officer fully functional and ready to come to the aid of a student in need.
“All universities and higher educational institutions have been directed to have a notice or flex board fixed to ensure publicity/awareness of the establishment of grievance redress mechanism and UGC students’ grievances portal,” the UGC has said in a communiqué to varsities.
Through the August 8, 2017 missive, UGC secretary Jaspal S Sandhu made it clear that the communiqué was being sent at the behest of the ministry of human resource development which has desired the UGC to issue a necessary advisory to all higher educational institutions for having a notice board/flex board fixed near the office of the vice-chancellor, director, dean, principal of the university/ institute/college.
This will reduce the load on the public grievances (PG) portal of DARPG (department of administrative reforms and public grievances) and also ensure effective redress of the grievances, the missive explains.
Sandhu has urged VCs to personally intervene in the matter and ensure that a notice board giving details of the PG portal of UGC (http://www.ugc.ac.in/ qrievance/) is on display in the university and also in affiliated colleges of the varsities.
“The Nodal Officer, the person in-charge of the Grievance Redress Cell of your University will monitor and respond to students’ grievances lodged on the portal. The Nodal Officers in addition to handling grievances of respective universities will also be responsible for handling grievances of the affiliated colleges, and report the action taken on the portal,” the missive says, adding that the issue may be treated as urgent.
