Now, hair of five Allahabad women found cut, police deny incidents

ALLAHABAD: After Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan besides some places in Uttar Pradesh, five cases of ‘hair chopping’ of women under mysterious circumstan­ces were reported from Allahabad district on Friday. All the incidents took place in trans-Ganga area of the district.

A woman was found unconsciou­s with her braid chopped off in Payagipur village of Utraon on Friday evening. In Motiha village of Utraon, the braid of another woman Nisha Devi was chopped off near hr house in the morning following which she fainted. Police reached the scene but failed to get any clues about the mysterious incident.

Earlier panic prevailed among residents of Dhurva village of Phulpur after two girls Kavita, 13, Khushbu, 15, and a woman Sanno Devi, 35, complained that their hair was chopped mysterious­ly late in the evening.

The scared villagers informed the police of the incident. It is reported that some cops visited the village.

There is panic in the area and women are scared of venturing out after the incident. However, late in the night, Phulpur police denied any such incident and advised the villagers to stay away from rumours.

ASP Ashok Kumar said that a circular had been issued by the DGP in this connection in which instructio­ns had been given to take action against those found spreading rumours.

“No truth has been found in any of the incidents recently reported from some rural areas of the district,” the ASP claimed.
