AGRA: An ardent fan of the Indian cricket team has announced that he will iron clothes of his customers for free for five days if India win the ongoing Champions Trophy tournament in England.

However, Azad Singh Diwakar aka ‘Azad’, who makes a living by ironing clothes in Pratap Nagar in Agra, allegedly received a threat call from Pakistan.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists assured him support and informed local police of it. The police sought the help of the surveillance cell in tracing the origin of the alleged threat call.

Azad had rendered the free service for 15 days to locals after the Indian cricket team won the World Cup in 2011.

He received a call allegedly from Pakistan on Tuesday evening. “The caller asked my name and in a threatening tone asked me to explain the logic for making such an offer. I told him that it driven by patriotism and disconnected the phone,” he claimed.

On Thursday when the matter came to light, Rajendra Garg, the officiating city VHP president, assured Azad all support. “We were with Azad throughout the day . In view of his security, we decided to apprise the local police of it,” Garg told HT on Thursday evening.

“The number from which the alleged call was made has been given to the surveillance cell to verify. The local police are asked to keep a vigil so that the man (Azad) does not feel unsafe,” said Rajeshwar Tyagi, station incharge of Jagdishpura police station in Agra.
