Cricket Buddies win Samual Trophy in style

LUCKNOW: Cricket Buddies scored a convincing six-wicket win against hosts Lucknow Veteran Cricketers Associatio­n (LVCA) to win the 23rd Samual Banerjee Memorial Cricket Tournament, at the Chowk Stadium here on Sunday. Needing 131 to win in 20 overs, Cricket Buddies romped home in 15 overs. Agha Shahid (57) and Haider Raza (33) were the main scorers. Earlier, Shakeel (54) and Akhilesh (44) helped LVCA score 130 for four in 20 overs while batting first after winning the toss. Sanjay Singh had two for 30.

THRILLING WIN

NDBG Group stormed into the semi-final of the Shane Awadh Cricket Tournament, registerin­g a thrilling six-run win against Radical Buildtech, at the Northern Railway Stadium here on Sunday. After scoring 163 for eight in 20 overs while batting first after winning the toss, NDBG Group restricted the rivals for 157 for three. Opener Deepak Singh hammered 60 ball 72, which contained 10 boundaries, whereas Chandresh Kumar made 59 in 41 balls.

ELECTED

Uttar Pradesh Badminton Associatio­n in its annual general meeting on Sunday appointed Viraj Sagar Das as its chairman. Due to the death of Akhilesh Das early this week, the post of chairman was vacant.

Viraj is also expected to replace his father Akhilesh Das as president of the UP Olympic Associatio­n too. The UPOA is due to have its meeting in May-June to confirm the replacemen­t.

OPEN CHESS

Pawan Batham emerged victorious in the open category of the Sunday Chess Tournament, managing maximum possible five points. Arjun Singh, Devendra Bajpai followed him.
