Malihabad records highest turnout

Officials say 58.5% votes cast in the state capital, 2.8% more than the 2012 assembly elections

LUCKNOW : According to the official figures released by the district administra­tion on Monday, in the third phase of assembly elections, the state capital witnessed 58.45% polling, 2.8% more than in the 2012 assembly elections.

On Sunday (polling day ), the administra­tion had announced the total poll percentage as 60.01%.

On Monday, the administra­tion released the fresh figures and officials cited ‘calculatio­n error’ behind the mismatch in the figures. “It’s official that the district (Lucknow) witnessed 58.45% polling in the third phase of assembly polls,” said Abhay Kishore Srivastav Kumar, additional district election official (ADEO).

Of the 35,21,094 total electors, 20,58,125 turned up the exercise their franchise that suggests that 14,62,969 electors did not cast their votes on the polling day. “A big chunk did not exercise their voting rights in the state capital, despite a series of awareness campaigns and drives,” another administra­tive official said.

Those who turned up to vote included 9,15,783 females and 11,42,342 males, constituti­ng 56.49% and 60.13% respective­ly. Of the nine constituen­cies, Lucknow Cantt witnessed the lowest turnout, 49.67% and Malihabad constituen­cy witnessed the highest female turnout—64.97%. Overall, Maliha- bad constituen­cy witnessed the maximum turnout of 66.82% voters this time. It had also recorded the highest overall turnout in 2012 assembly polls that was 65.34%.

In this election, the polling percentage of female voters rose by 4.31% and of male voters by 0.7%.

In the 2012 assembly elections, of the total turnout of 56.37%, the total female participat­ion was 52.18% and male participat­ion was 59.43%.

Lucknow West constituen­cy witnessed 45.13% female voter turnout that was the lowest in all constituen­cies while Malihabad recorded the highest female voter turnout of 62.47%.
