Time to say thanks for having lived one more good year

- PP Wangchuk

The happy realisation of the fact that we have lived to see another year shortly makes us feel humble and grateful. It is that time of the year again when we need to express our gratitude for all that we got to enjoy and celebrate in the past one year. It also gives rise to the inner voice getting stronger and louder in expressing thanks to all the forces of nature and sentient beings for having been so generous and helpful in making our journey on this earth so joyous and purposeful.

And, of course, it also comes as a reminder that we have to be ready for the ‘give-and-pay-back’ gear for what we have received so abundantly and generously all these years. We have to work together to make sure that the less fortunate ones get rid of their sufferings and have the basic requirements of living a life of dignity, love and progress. We have to make them feel that we are with them and that they can raise their hopes to have a brighter future.

As American self-help author Melody Beattie says, “Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity, makes sense of the past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

We must understand that the best form of receiving is giving. And hence expressing our gratitude makes you happier and richer in terms of emotional contentment and feeling of love and compassion. Now that we are about to step into a new year, let us ponder and look within and judge ourselves whether we have lived up to our potential of being true human beings exhibiting all the qualities of head and heart.
