Sports College lose on first day of Sanjay Singh volleyball

LUCKNOW: The inaugural match of the 23rd Sanjay Singh Memorial State Level Volleyball Tournament was played between Devariya Sports Hostel and Allahabad Sports Hostel in which Devariya Sports Hostel won a tight contest with a score of 27-25 & 29-27. Setter Abhishek Singh Chauhan and Mukesh Singh from Deoriya Hostel made good positions for attack and played major role in the victory.

In the second match played between NER Gorakhpur and Gorakhpur Sports Hostel first set was won by NER Gorakhpur by 25-21 but they lost the second and the third set by 21-25 and 21-25. Although internatio­nal player Abhay Pratap from NER Gorakhpur tried his best but he could not succeed in avoiding defeat due to lack of harmony between the players.

DLW Varanasi easily defeated Faizabad Hostel (Green) in the third match with the score 25-17 and 25-15. Internatio­nal players Sandeep Kumar and Om Veer Maan from DLW Varanasi did not let the players of Faizabad Hostel play freely and tied them at the every corner of the court.

Having internatio­nal player Sunil and all national players in array, the team of Pratapgarh Kunda bagged the victory by 25-21 and 25-22 against Sports College Lucknow in the fourth match of the day.

In the fifth match DLW Varanasi scored 25-18 and 25-21 against K D Singh Babu Stadium to win his second match and in the sixth match NER Gorakhpur defeated Banda Hostel with the score 35-20 and 25-18.

The tournament is being played on the league cum knockout basis.

NER CRICKET

NER’s inter-department­al cricket tournament got underway at the Aishbagh stadium here on Saturday. In the first match of the day, Mechanical Stocks took on Diesel Powers. Batting first Diesel Powers could only manage 93 runs as all their batsmen were sent packing. Vinay was the highest scorer with 22 runs while Prahlad took 4 for 13. Chasing the modest total, Mechanical Stocks barely broke sweat as they got there after losing just four wickets. Deependra scored 24 runs.

In the second match of the day, Northern Medical scored 133 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and in reply Traction Tigers got to the winning total emphatical­ly in just 14 overs after losing just 3 wickets.

MALLICK MEMORIAL SEMIS

In the two semi final matches played in the Mallick Memorial Cricket Tournament at Chandra Bhanu Gupta Ground here on Saturday Indian Public Inter College beat St. Columbus Inter College by a solitary run while BSNV Inter College thumped National Inter College by 6 wickets.

The final match between Indian Public Inter College and BSNV Inter College will be played at the CB Gupta Ground on Sunday.
