Vijender hopes to continue winning
DUBLIN: Buoyed by a knockout start to his professional career, Vijender Singh will be up against Briton Dean Gillen in his second bout here on Saturday in front of fans and Hollywood executives exploring his potential as a movie star. Vijender, who notched up a technical knockout against Sonny Whiting in his debut fight last month, will take on the parttime fire-fighter in a four-round contest.
GOLD FOR HEENA IN ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
KUWAIT CITY: Heena Sidhu made a grand return to form by winning the gold medal in the 10m air pistol women’s event at the 13th Asian Shooting Championship here on Friday. She shot 198.2 in the finals to edge out Mongolian Gundegma Otreyad, who shot 198. In the 10m air pistol junior women’s event, Shri Nivetha also won a gold with a score of 195.8.
11 MEDALS FOR INDIA IN WORLD YOUTH CHESS
NEW DELHI: India won 11 medals, including five gold, three silver and three bronze at the World Youth Chess Championships at Porto Carras in Greece. M Mahalakshmi (girls’ U-18), R Vaishali (girls’ U-14), R Pragnanandaa (open U-10), Rakshita Ravi (girls’ U-10) and Bharath Subramaniyam (open U-8) won gold.

SHANGHAI: SSP Chawrasia carded an even par 72 that pushed him to tied 37th place, down six places from 31st overnight, at the WGC-HSBC Champions here on Friday. He is now threeunder 141 for 36 holes. Anirban Lahiri, winner of two titles in 2015, had a rough day at the windy Sheshan International Golf Club as he carded threeover 75 and slipped from 42nd to tied 61st place. At New Delhi, Chirag Kumar showed tremendous grit as he recovered from a poor start to fire a fantastic sixunder 66 and grab a comfortable three-stroke lead.
