LMC house okays smart city proposal
LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation house passed several important proposals on Saturday.
The traffic park at sector J of Indralok Colony was given to the city traffic police, to be used as a training park for drivers and for conducting driving tests of license seekers, for the next three years.
In another important decision, Martin Charities Trust of La Martiniere College leased out its land to LMC for barrel number 24 26 and 27. These barrels (iron pipes to suck out flood water) are important for saving the low lying areas of Jiamau and La Martiniere College from water logging.
A proposal exempting winners of president gallantry awards from paying house tax was passed by the house.
In another proposal, the children shelter home at Geetapalli was named after noted freedom fighter and social activist Rani Ram Kumar Bhargava, while road of Jiamau was named after Dr HC Pant.
A proposal to increase the tripping charges for solid waste, from ` 562 per metric tonne to ` 1,604 per metric tonne, was opposed by the corporators. Cutting across party lines, the coprorators said that the proposal must be referred to the state government for further consideration.
The house passed the resolution of supporting the proposal of smart city, with the rider of making LMC the decision-making body in deciding the projects and checking the work of agencies. The corporators demanded that any detailed project report must not be prepared without prior consultations with them, public organisations and resident welfare colonies.
The proposal of passing the city development plan (CDP) was referred to the state government as the corporators said that they were not consulted before the plan was made.
The CDP is an important document that will give shape to the development of the state capital from 2015 to 2040.
