ANELKA RETURNS TO MUMBAI AS PLAYER-MANAGER

NEW DELHI: Former France and Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka will return to Mumbai City FC as the team’s marquee playermana­ger for the second season of the Indian Super League (ISL), the club announced on Friday.

The 36-year-old, who scored two goals for Mumbai in the inaugural edition of the eightteam league last year, took on a similar dual role in 2012 for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua. “I would like to say thank you to the Mumbai City FC staff for giving me the opportunit­y to coach the club,” Anelka, who has played for a host of English Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, said in a statement.

FALCAO GETS FRESH START AT CHELSEA

LONDON: Colombian internatio­nal striker Radamel Falcao said Friday he is raring to go at Chelsea after signing a oneyear loan deal with the English Premier League champions.

The 29-year-old came out of a disastrous one year loan at Manchester United and is looking forward to plying his trade under Jose Mourinho for the forthcomin­g season.

“I am very happy to be joining Chelsea and can’t wait to start training and help with our aim of retaining the league title and being successful in Europe,” he told the club’s website.

UNITED’S NANI SET FOR MOVE TO FENERBAHCE

ISTANBUL: Manchester United winger Nani is set to join Turkish side Fenerbahce after spending the last year on loan at Sporting Lisbon, the Istanbul outfit said on Friday on its Twitter site.
