‘Help! I’m a fresher looking for a job’
I have done MBA in finance and scored 85%. I am willing to join the corporate sector but as I am a fresher, I’m finding it difficult to land a job in companies in Ludhiana. How do I approach this challenge? —Hema
Usually the most effective hiring for freshers is through the campus hiring route. From your mail, I cannot make out if your institute offers the option of campus hiring. Withou hiring on campus, it is difficult for freshers to get a job and you will have to keep track of vacancies appearing on various job portals for suitable opportunities. Government banks usually hire probationary officers for which there is a specific common allIndia process; usually the details are available on their websites and I would advise you to look at them. My advice is to make a list of companies from the Ludhiana Trade Directory which have a ` 250-crore plus annual turnover and apply to as many of them as you can. I am over 35 years old and work in a nationalised bank as stenographer. Can I change my career by pursuing studies in computers, say DOEACC ‘B’ Level (which is equivalent to MCA) on a part time basis? Would it be prudent to quit my present job and start my career afresh in the field of information technology? —R Dutta You should have a discussion with your HR department on the opportunities available for you within the organisation; this may even mean a transfer to a remote location etc. The best option for you is to change (upgrade) the nature of your job within your existing organisation. Try and get information on the type of internal job postings and the nature of qualifications and experience that they demand. That will give you an idea about the areas you should focus on and the additional qualifications that you will require.
