A month on, over a lakh from 15 cities appear for UP-CPMT
SUPER SUNDAY Around 9,000 candidates skip the test apparently due to delay in rescheduling
Almost a month after the exam was cancelled due to an incorrect report of paper leak, over one lakh students appeared for the Uttar Pradesh Combined Pre Medical Test-2014 (UPCPMT 2014), held at 15 cities across the state on Sunday. However, officials said around 9,000 candidates skipped the test apparently due to the delay in rescheduling.
According to official records, seven candidates did not match their photographs or failed other biometric details. Though they were allowed to take the exam, a screening of their details will now be done by the King George’s Medical University.
Heavy rainfall in most districts caused several candidates to reach late to the centers for the exam, which was supposed to start at 10am. However, center in-charges allowed entry to students until 10.20 on humanitarian grounds. “Approximately one lakh students came to take the examination and around 8.5% remained absent. The exam passed peacefully and no proxy solvers were reported from any of the 15 districts where the test took place,” said prof AK Singh, chief coordinator CPMT conducted by the KGMU.
For students who are hoping for a seat in state run medical/ dental institutes, questions in the chemistry section seemed the toughest. “We were preparing for the past few months, specially since June 22 when the exam got cancelled for a re-exam today,” said Ashwin, a candidate.
According to reports, a total of 1,09,295 candidates had enrolled for the examination this year—registering a jump of 35% than the past few years. The exam was conducted in 209 centres of 15 cities of Uttar Pradesh. The results are likely to come on July 28.
