Nilesh wins Green Baize snooker crown in style
LUCKNOW: Energetic Nilesh Nagpal won the 1st Green Baize Handicap Snooker Championship, beating the present India No 3 in the subjunior category Mandeep Singh by 4-0 here on Sunday.
Though the score line would indicate a one sided match but the reality was that Nilesh had to fight hard in each frame except the third.
In the first it was Mandeep all the way till there was one red on the table. At this point Mandeep was leading by 31 points with maximum 35 on table. Nilesh got an wopportunity, which he crafted, into a beautiful 33-point break clearing the table to take it by 56-54.
In the second Nilesh led all the way and at blue Mandeep required two snookers and after fluking the blue Mandeep surrendered 52-68. Once again in the third Nilesh had a comfortable win of 46-8 when Mandeep was forced to give up on color balls only.
The do or die frame for Mandeep once more saw Mandeep requiring a snooker on blue and it looked like Gods were finally smiling on Mandeep when Nilesh fouled off the blue.
Mandeep managed to pot the blue and the pink bringing the game to black to win. Though Mandeep did play a reasonably good safety but Nilesh played even a better shot to pot the black and winning the title at 51-49.
Secretary Lucknow Cue Sports Association’s secretary Tanuj Kohli gave away the prizes.
