BJP’s communal agenda a threat to country: Sonia

- HT Correspondent

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday came down heavily the on BJP, saying its “communal agenda poses a grave danger to the unity and integrity of the country”.

Addressing two election rallies in Thrissur and Kozhikode, a combative Gandhi slammed both the BJP and the Left parties, accusing them of pursuing divisive politics and the politics of violence that are equally dangerous for the country.

“We should fight the forces of darkness and we will ensure that the forces of light come alive in our country,” she said without taking any names.

She said the UPA always stood for a secular India while the opposition BJP always wanted a single-man rule that would ultimately divide the nation. “Do you want an India that belongs to all or an India that belongs to a few?” she asked the mammoth crowd that clapped loudly and shouted they prefer the first.

“What only matters to us is that we are all Indians. The different religions, castes, languages and colours of the skin do not matter,” she said.

WE SHOULD FIGHT THE FORCES OF DARKNESS AND WE WILL ENSURE THAT THE FORCES OF LIGHT COME ALIVE IN OUR COUNTRY.

Criticising the opposition for propagating false charges on corruption, Gandhi said, “In every instance, we have taken corrective action. I want to challenge them to make such claims in states ruled by them.”

On the change that the BJP promises to bring, she said, “I want to ask them what kind of change are they talking about? Do the people of India truly give up the values they cherish and trust those who have hitched their political careers on falsehoods and blatant lies?”

Attacking the CPM-led Left Democratic Front, Gandhi said the Congress has been fighting a different battle in Kerala against a “rigid” ideology.

Calling the Left a “prisoner of an outdated ideology”, she said it always flouted the norms of non-violence propagated by the Father of the Nation.
