‘Fest will bring joy in tough times’

The day one of the Sanatkada Fest’21 saw a lecture, live on zoom, on Baradari and Paradise Gardens, delivered by scholar Dr Neeta Das, the renowned of Lucknow, now based in Kolkata. The talk included the questions surrounding why Baradaris were built, what were the architectural elements.

The second day had admirers of the handicrafts getting closer to the process of quality craftsmanship. Every year MSLF hosts offline sessions and this year the fest saw online interactions. Amidst the local vendors of Kulfi, Bhelpuri and Chai, we had the online crafts’ demonstrations of Aqeel Akhtar’s Bone Carving and Hira Devi’s Madhubani.

Earlier, a heritage walk was also part of pre fest activities.

A crafts shop is set at Sanatkada centre as well as craft items, clothing and more is available online.

Madhavi Kuckreja, founding director of the festival for twelve years, said that many artisans are joining in this virtual carnival of weaves and crafts. Along with this fete, folks are relishing the Awadhi home-cooked food too! We will try our best to bring joy in tough times.
