BUILT ON COMMITMENT & FAITH!
Play ‘Madhyantar’ was staged this Wednesday at the Rai Umanath Bali Auditorium. The play was a part of the Lucknow Theatre festival which is a collaboration between the Uttar Pradesh Artists’ Association and the Uttar Pradesh Culture department. The play was performed on the fifth day of the festival. Actors from the Third Wing presented the play. It is written by Jaywardhan and directed by Puneet Asthana and Keshav Pandit.
Pandit played the role of Keshav, Kanika Balani played the role of Kanika, and Manoj Verma played the role of Manoj. The word ‘Madhyantar’ means ‘differences between two people’ which is exactly what this play is about. It revolves around Keshav and Kanika who are husband and wife. Keshav is an acting teacher in a private drama school and Kanika is housewife. They live a happily married life until one day an accident disables Keshav. After the accident, Keshav is fired from his job which forces Kanika to look for one. The accident also leaves Keshav unable to have children.
The unfortunate accident and the events that follow strain Keshav and Kanika’s marriage. Keshav feels that Kanika is saddened by the fact that she will not be able to have children with him. Hence, he requests his friend
Manoj to marry Kanika. Manoj tell Keshav that getting married just to have children would be foolish. When Keshav proposes this idea to Kanika, she is hurt and says, “Keshav you don’t understand me, the relationship between a husband and wife is built on confidence, commitment and faith. We are not a burden to one another. Rather, we complement one another.”
