RELIVING GURU DUTT’S ERA
The golden era of actorproducer-director Guru Dutt was brought alive at ‘Tarz- Jaane Woh Kaise Log The...’ event by FICCI-FLO Lucknow-Kanpur Chapter at Jaipuria Management Institute auditorium, recently.
The event presented by Tarz, a branch of Delhi-based society Sangeet Smriti witnessed a cultural evening that included songs, life and history of the legendary film maker and actor.
Singers Ajay Mankotia, Dr JS Bahtra, Maj Gen KT Gajria, Dr KK Mehta, Kalpana Kaul, Dr Mona Khare, Neelam Kohli, Dr Sridhar Kanna, Uma Ramesh, Anushruti and Fanish Kumar presented the songs from Guru Dutt’s films. Tarz’s founder Shikha Biswas Vohra along with Atima Mankotia presented the event.
Six-year-old Anushruti Pawar gave a musical opening to the event. She sung famous song ‘Yeh Lucknow Ki Sarzameen’ from Dutt’s film Chaudhavi Ka Chand which was shot in Lucknow.
It was followed by evergreen songs such as Yeh Duniya Agar, Yeh Ratein, Chaudhvi Ka Chand and Waqt Ne Kiya were presented. The sequence of songs was well blended with a fine mix of sad, romantic and peppy songs.
Shikha Biswas, who also happens to be Guru Dutt’s niece, talked about the film maker and gave an insight about his life in short intervals. She told small anecdotes from his life. The audience was all ears to the fact that how Dutt suffered huge losses after the boxoffice disaster Kagaz Ke Phool and left directing films. It was only after his next production Chaudhvi Ka Chaand became a run-away hit he recovered from debts. The theme of the event was black and white inspired by the golden era of Dutt. The members of FICCI-FLO as-wellas the guests were
seen abiding to the dress code. The event was held under the guidance of chairperson Archana Khetan, senior vice-chairperson Renuka Tandon and event chair Renu Prakash.
Renowned artist and painter Sadhna Kumar was the chief guest of the event.
