Get ready for urban body polls, BJP tells dist chiefs in Punjab
JALANDHAR : The state unit of BJP has directed its district unit heads to strengthen the organisation structure of the party and get ready for the upcoming urban local bodies polls, said Punjab BJP chief Ashwani Sharma here on Monday.
The saffron party’s state unit held a meeting of its officebearers and district presidents for the first time after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) broke the alliance last month.
Punjab is all set for the elections of 126 urban local bodies (ULBs), including nine municipal corporations and 117 municipal councils.
The state has a total of 167 ULBs.
Two district presidents present in the meeting revealed that they were asked to appoint the office-bearers of the respective wings, including mandal and morhca presidents and members.
There are 390 mandals across the state and would have 45 members each.
They added that they were also directed to complete the organisation structure by October 21 and produce a report on the same day.
Party insiders have said they were told to contest the ULBs polls with full strength without worrying for votes or winnability of seats.
Agri law pamphlets to farmers in Punjabi
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit chief also released the pamphlet of new agricultural laws translated in Punjabi.
Sharma said 10 lakh such pamphlets would be distributed across the state in the coming days to make farmers aware of the agricultural laws and to break the net of misleading propaganda.
He said Bharatiya Janata Part workers were ready and determined to deal with any situation and for the forthcoming assembly elections, people had already made up their mind to form a BJP government in the state by a landslide victory.
